#202 – Shea Gerhardt Beats Apple At Their Own Game

On the slopes of Colorado, Shea Gerhardt’s ears hurt from wearing typical earbuds for hours.  Ouch!  There has to be a better way…  and Buderflys research began.

But why leave two decades as a high-paid executive in the mobile, gaming, and music industries?  Shea had worked with Universal, Sony, EMI, and Warner Bros., as well as VZW, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Vodafone.

The reason is other earbud designs are flawed.  The human ear canal moves as we move, and thus hard plastic, inflexible Apple EarPod / AirPod-like designs not only fall out, they can hurt when wore for long periods of time.

But how can Shea and her team develop a clear and focused path to cut through the noise of a crowded market overpopulated with stale product designs?  How can they flip it so better, user-centric products are king even though massive corporate conglomerates and Chinese knockoffs saturate the market?

Shea believes in doing things right.  She couldn’t standby and just accept the status quo when better is possible.  It took four years of innovation, creativity, and grit for her team to perfect the design of high-end, premium-sounding Buderflys made with a proprietary, innovative squishy material that flexes with the ear’s movement as we talk, chew, and exercise.  You can wear Buderflys for hours as you enjoy a crisp and clear sound.  (David checked:  The reviews on the microphone are positive too!)

Join this podcast to hear Shea’s candid story.  It’s fun, inspiring, and insightful.  Who knows?  Maybe Shea’s insights might help you create the next Goliath-killer product or service.
